I don’t want to be so pedantic, but, it’s not a base model. In the preview for your video you show the fully digital instrument cluster... which is an optional extra for the G20 3 series in the United States.

Still the base 3 series.
If you take a Camaro 1LS V6, check a box to get it a 8 inch screen versus a 6 inch screen. It is still a base model Camaro.
I believe you are confusing or merging the term “stripper”, meaning no options, with “base”.
It is very hard to find stripper+base model cars of anything. Many times they are used as a marketing ploy to show “this is as cheap as you can have X car”, when really 95 % are made with Y package or Z package.

In the car world, the term base model is generally used to describe a
car’s bottom-level trim, which often goes unnamed. For example, say a
car is sold in three trim levels, the Car, the Car LX and the Car RS. In
this case, the plainly named Car would be considered the base model or,
put another way, the most basic version of the vehicle you can buy
(hence the term base model).
-Doug Demuro.
So, I use Doug’s description because it’s the first result I got to the query “What is a base model.” No, I did not look up “What is a stripper” for obvious reasons.
Keeping that in mind. The G20 you show isn’t a base model. Why? Because it has the M sport trim, and thousands of dollars in optional extras. Simply by listing charged optional extras in the Monroney sticker it seizes to be a base model.
Now, you probably argue that it is a base model because it’s the least powerful G20 they sell in the US, which is true.... But then again, you can get a base model 540i or a base model 530i....
Referring
to the car you show as a base model is misleading because if someone showed to a dealer and asked for the base model G20, chances are that the sales staff would show them a car with much less equipment.

The starting MSRP for the 2018 F30 was $35,000. The starting MSRP for the 2019 G20 is $40,000! That’s a $5000 increase which easily makes up for standard equipment upgrades for the new model.
They essentially move the 3-series up market. The base 330i comes a 2.0L I4 turbo. With previous F30, that motor configuration got you the 320i badge.
Yes it was only tuned for 180hp instead of 255hp in the G20. But I think BMW has decided that they didn’t ’ need a cheaper 3-series since they have the 2-series for that.

Yes, but it’s $5,000 more expensive than the “base” model 2018 F30. So the higher equipment content makes perfect sense.

Since when did “tech” start defining quality?

Don’t quote me on this, but I think the LCI F30 330i also had a 4cyl engine

Well... this is BMW we’re talking about. At the dealers here, if you do that they’ll just ignore you completely instead and leave you alone to go over to the rich kid looking for an M4 , lol.

Sales staff at bmw dealers are pathetic.

This so much. Digital instrument cluster doesn’t enhance my driving experience.
The new MB A class and GLEs at work look amazing inside and it’s reallt easy to sell someone on oooh a touchscreen, but the controls are way clumsier while driving than the old haptic feedback scroll wheel. The voice commands work very well, but I’m not the type of person to use those at all.

I’ve been in quite a few “high quality” cars that if you strip out the tech have the interior quality of a base model from 15 years ago.
Tech to me doesn’t define quality or luxury, materials, comfort, noise, etc mean way more to me than how much tech is crammed in.
